My Teenage Dream Job
So growing up in the 90s we had the start of reality TV shows and a lot of them focused on travel. We had Holiday Reps, Airport, Airline etc. To me these were glamorous jobs. To be an Air hostess (cabin crew) looked like the dream job. Getting to fly all over the world and getting to stay in new places, really did look like an amazing lifestyle. So I picked my standard grade subjects to suit learning French, Germans and Geography. But that dream came to a crashing halt one day in September 2001. Watching what happened that day made me change my mind. The reality of being responsible for that number of people if something went wrong again terrified me. It didn’t put me off getting on a plane again, it just made me realise there was more to the job than just the glamorous travel side.
At 18 I went to work full time at a Bank instead. I lacked the money and confidence to go backpacking especially solo as non of my friends were ever interested in the idea of going travelling.
